International School of BFA held the opening ceremony of the SCO national film production project on September 9th. Yu Jianhong, Vice President of BFA, Li Ran, Dean of International School, teaching and managing faculty representatives and project international students attended the activity.
In order to actively participate in the people-to-people and cultural exchanges among SCO countries, BFA, with the support of the State Film Administration, announced at the SCO Film Festival held in Qingdao, Shandong Province, in June 2018 that it would provide a one-year film-making training program to young filmmakers from SCO member countries and observer countries. This program will combine theoretical learning with experiential learning, and take the producing of a short film of 5-10 minutes as the result of the completion and screen them. The short films shall meet the professional technical requirements of the film industry, reflect certain aesthetic and artistic values, and embody the spirit and tenet of SCO. After a year of careful preparation by BFA, young filmmakers from SCO member states and observer states were selected to participate in the project at BFA.
First of all, Yu Jianhong, Vice President of BFA, expressed welcome to the overseas students on behalf of the university. He briefly introduced the history of BFA and reviewed its achievements in the field of film creation, and encouraged the students to learn from the famous alumni and to adhere to the spirit of SCO to co-create outstanding films and contribute to the exchanges between China and other SCO countries in the field of film.
Li Ran, Dean of the International School, mentioned in her speech that International School has designed a high-quality course for the project, which focuses on practical shooting. The SCO national film production project provides the participants with a stage to fully present themselves. Li Ran hoped all the participants would gain something in this year and looked forward to their graduation short films.
KRAVCHENKO YEKATERINA from Kazakhstan gave a speech on behalf of the new students. She firstly expressed her gratitude to the State Film Administration of China and BFA for giving her such an opportunity to learn about film-making. It has always been her dream to make short films based on her own story. She also hoped to learn and make progress together with students from other SCO countries through this project.
After that, representatives of the lectures and teachers from the International Student Affair Office also explained the problems that need to be paid attention to in teaching and daily life from their own perspectives. Finally, all participants took a group photo to commemorate this important moment.
This SCO national film production project is another step taken by BFA to serve the country's overall diplomacy with professional advantages and also further promotes the international development of BFA.
