The 1st Berlin Chinese Film Festival came to a close in Babylon Cinema, Berlin in the evening of Feb. 27th. Farewell, a long film of 2015 MFA graduates’ joint work directed by Degena, a MFA graduate from Department of Directing, and selected and delivered by BFA, was awarded young director special prize of young people competition unit. The festival has three units, best Chinese film media prize (multiple choices), best documentary media prize (single choice) and best young director media prize (single choice). “Best young director media prize” pays attention to Chinese young directors who are awarded the prize. Prize winners will be funded by Brandenburg Media Alliance to have further education for six to twelve months in German Film and Television Academy or cooperate with Germany on a film project. Six hundred works were submitted to the festival and only forty were selected for semifinalist. The film festival lasted for four days. Chen Ping, cultural counselor of Chinese Embassy in Germany, Li Xiaosi, minister counselor, Dong Qi, minister counselor of Education Department of the Embassy and Bai Wei, counselor of Political Office were present at the festival. Prof. Wu Guanping, dean of Department of Film Studies, BFA acted as judge of the festival and was present at the opening and closing ceremonies.

Berlin Chinese Film Festival is sponsored by Europe Daily and Berlin New Century Culture Corporation and co-organized by Brandenburg Media Alliance, Haihui Runhe (Beijing) Culture and Media Co., Future East Culture & Media, BFA and Film School of Tongji University and it is also supported by Chinese Embassy in Germany and Berlin Municipal Government. The festival is conducted to build an international platform in Germany for Chinese film makers, introduce Chinese films to Germany, advocate Chinese culture and promote cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Germany. Therefore, the festival will synchronize with Berlin Film Festival once a year since 2016. BFA will continue with submission of excellent student film works to offer students an international platform of showing their talent.
